Webinar Recap | ERCOT Electricity Affordability Outlook: Forecasting Residential Electricity Prices and Burdens

Electricity costs in ERCOT’s competitive retail market have climbed roughly 30% since 2020, adding about $35-40/month to the typical household’s bill.

To ring in the new year, TEPRI kicked off the 2026 Community Voices Speaker Series on Tuesday, January 6th, reviewing findings from ERCOT Electricity Affordability Outlook: Forecasting Residential Electricity Prices and Burdens (2025-2030).

TEPRI Executive Director Margo Weisz was joined by Texas energy experts Becky Klein and Alison Silverstein to discuss the implications of the model’s projected 30% increase in residential electric bills by 2030, how customers’ inability to pay can affect household decisions and the broader electricity ecosystem, and solutions that may help households mitigate costs.
