Senior Project Manager

TEPRI seeks a Senior Project Manager to manage energy projects and provide technical assistance on energy planning to local jurisdictions and community-based organizations. The ideal candidate will have experience in the solar and energy industry and possess exceptional relationship skills with a demonstrated history of diplomacy, patience, and a positive approach to team participation. We are seeking candidates with keen intellectual curiosity and a deep interest in making a positive impact at the intersection of energy and poverty through demonstration projects. The Manager will oversee the Federal Solar for All programs in Brownsville, Laredo, and El Paso, as well as other technical assistance programs that TEPRI is contracted to provide. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, and other TEPRI staff to achieve the objectives of TEPRI’s strategic plan.

The ideal candidate will have a strong creative and entrepreneurial spirit, experience communicating with different types of stakeholders, technical skills in the solar and energy sector, and exceptional skills in building relationships with diverse stakeholders with different perspectives. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Program Management Responsibilities (70%)

  • Develop and manage programs to assist, monitor, and provide technical assistance to the solar programs in Brownsville, Laredo, and El Paso that are part of the Federal Solar for All initiative. Along with providing technical assistance to the jurisdictions, the Manager is responsible for tracking and managing the funding, developing metrics for success, and reporting on program progress.
  • Manage and provide technical assistance to jurisdictions and community stakeholders around the state that contract with TEPRI to assist with their energy planning.
  • Manage additional staff as programs grow.
  • Manage project budgets, compliance, metrics, and timelines.

Program Support Responsibilities (20%)

  • Support TEPRI team members on the technical pieces of their project portfolios, including our work in solar/storage/VPP technology and other DER projects.
  • Participate in writing reports for publication and funders and presenting to a broad stakeholder network.

Other Organizational Support (10%)

  • On an as-needed basis, support other programs including community outreach and facilitation.
  • Experience in developing web-based tools is welcome.
  • Support TEPRI’s social media accounts and participate in the creation of communications efforts that align with TEPRI’s mission and goals.
  • Assist in writing funding proposals.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 4+ years of professional work experience, or bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of professional work experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment, alternating between team player and team lead.
  • Experience with a mix of private and public sector, project-based environments including project development, university research, consulting, or professional services preferred.
  • Experience adapting language and communication mediums to meet different types of stakeholders.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong and demonstrated project management skills including budgeting, compliance, and developing and adhering to timelines.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new subject areas and skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize projects, track progress, and discern and communicate results.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical findings in a succinct and easy-to-understand manner using captivating language meant to engage the public.

  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to act or speak on behalf of the organization when appropriate.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships and collaboration with outside organizations, work collaboratively, motivate partners, and ensure that they meet deadlines and accomplish the appropriate tasks.
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with federal contracts is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the complex energy landscape in Texas.

Community Outreach and Programs Associate

TEPRI seeks a Community Outreach and Programs Associatewith keen intellectual curiosity and a deep interest in making a positive impact at the intersection of energy and poverty through demonstration projects. The Associate will work closely with the Sr. Project Manager, Executive Director, and other TEPRI staff to achieve the objectives of TEPRI’s strategic plan. As a member of the TEPRI team, the Associate’s responsibilities will include participating as a member of the virtual power plant/resiliency hub program team, administering the Community Voices in Energy Survey research under the direction of a Research Fellow, serving as a community outreach facilitator on projects, managing the Energy Opportunities Speaker Series, and supporting other program activities.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Program Management Responsibilities (35%)

  • Manage the Energy Opportunity Speaker Series, which includes identifying and procuring speakers for webinars and in-person events and coordinating all logistics (approx. 4/yr).
  • Manage the production of TEPRI’s Community Voices in Energy Survey and reports: an annual survey of households with low-incomes. This will be under the direction of a PhD Fellow.
  • Develop strategies for engaging community organizations and community members on projects and facilitate community meetings.

Program Support Responsibilities (35%)

  • Support Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and Resiliency Hub initiatives including developing educational documentation and managing/coordinating/attending resiliency hub events.
  • Research resiliency hub and solar/battery/microgrid development best practices.
  • Analyze bill and meter data and conduct financial analysis under the direction of the Sr. Project Manager.
  • Support writing reports for publication and funders and presenting to a broad stakeholder network.

Other Organizational Support (30%)

  • On an as-needed basis, support other programs including Solar for All and other emerging projects, especially as they relate to community outreach and facilitation.
  • Support TEPRI’s social media accounts and participate in the creation of communications efforts which aligns with TEPRI’s mission and goals.
  • Assist in updating TEPRI’s website to ensure that the content reflects TEPRI’s latest work.
  • Help coordinate and market TEPRI events.
  • Assist in writing funding proposals.
