Webinar Recap | Energy Opportunities Speakers Series: Planning for Energy Equity

Thanks For Joining Us!

The Energy Opportunities Speaker Series event on September 26th, 2023 titled “Planning for Energy Equity: A Preview of TEPRI’s Statewide Energy Survey,” was led by Dr. Bobuchi Ken-Opurum and moderated by Dr. Amanda Dewey. The webinar focused on the strategic and data-based approach to addressing energy inequity across Texas and engaging in the community to identify growing energy needs.

Dr. Dewey proposed several frameworks developed by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) for the building of an equitable energy system and the importance of community engagement in fostering equitable outcomes. Dr. Ken-Opurum delved into the soon-to-be released “Community Voices in Energy Survey,” (CVES) and discussed the findings including cutbacks that households make in the hierarchy of needs to afford their energy bills, access to bill assistance programs, and continued concerns about resiliency. The survey also gathered data on respondents’ interest in clean energy, their willingness to pay extra for access to emerging technologies, and the continued importance of ensuring that all communities benefit as we continue to transition to clean energy resources.
